Student Accommodation

Do you need accommodation to attend school in Launceston?

The Student Accommodation Program offers a safe, professionally supervised environment for full-time and part-time students on the Newstead Campus.

Students must be enrolled in a special education program, or a school alternative program, be 6 years to 18 years of age, and may attend from private or government schools.

The service is available only during school terms, and numbers are limited to 12 people.

Accommodation is available from 3pm overnight to 9am the next morning on these days:

  • Sunday
  • Monday
  • Tuesday
  • Wednesday
  • Thursday

As a student you share a bedroom room with no more than one other person. Bathrooms are shared, and wheelchair accessible. Daily routines are encouraged.

Parents are encouraged to keep in contact and visitors are welcome.

The service fee includes all costs including accommodation, meals (and lunch), use of facilities and supervision. You may bring your own personal spending money.

Fees

A fee applies (see below), but eligible students may attract the Centrelink allowance Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC).

How to apply

Applications for residency can be made directly to St Michaels. Referrals are not required. Residency is usually based on assessment and an initial trial period.

You are welcome to arrange at time to visit St Michaels. This will give you the opportunity to see the facilities for yourself, meet some of the staff, and talk with some of the clients who attend our services.
